To accelerate my FIRE journey, I started reading books on investment. I was and still am a voracious reader. Of the many investment gurus I have read about, WB has the biggest influence on me. Despite being one of the richest men in the world, he leads a normal, some say, frugal life. He still lives in a house he bought decades ago and enjoys simple food like burgers and coke. What’s more, he is a philanthropist who has donated most of his wealth to charity, specifically the Gates’ foundation.
I admire his strength of character and his determination to give back to society. We all know $ and power corrupt and there are very few who can withstand their temptation. Just look at the big houses and flashy cars around you. I admire his wealth but most of all, his character and ability to control his relationship with $. Many people fell prey to serving $ instead of the other way around.
I highly recommend all the books on WB and his partner Charlie Munger. I must have read most of them. My favorite is SNOWBALL, WB’s autobiography. What an apt title. Everything starts small. Given enough time and the magic of compounding, it grows and grows and rest is history.
