Time flies.
I started work in September 2003 with KPMG so 20 years already.
It’s been quite a ride. With its ups and downs.
Got my 1st job with KPMG while still in NTU. This allowed me to go for graduation trip/summer camp in North Carolina straight after my last paper. I remembered interviewing with Deutsche Bank but did not make it past the 1st round.
KPMG was brutal with crazy hours. Left for EY Houston after 2 years. Still young then with opportunity to work in the States so why not.
Found out it was more of the same shit in EY plus far away from loved ones. Left after a year to come back home. It was fun though.
Joined Credit Suisse which is sadly no more in 2023. Better hours but shitty work. Left after 3 years without a job.
Joined MAS. Good solid experience with exposure to different people and companies which I supervise. I remembered soon after joining MAS, Citi offered me a sales job with my CFA to sell to HNWIs. I didn’t turn up for the 2nd interview. I also tried internal transfer to the monetary market team but did not succeed. Left after 6 years to join a FMC.
Left the Jap FMC after 1.5 years. Joined my current company – 5 years and counting. Can’t complain. I think I tried to make the most of my career despite my share of lousy bosses, work, opportunity or lack of. Things could have turned out differently if I have taken another option in that point of time. Would it be better? Will I make more $? Will there be more stress? Hmmm. I am happy and contented with where I am and what I have now. Better to focus on my family and the rest of my life. It’s better to like what I have than to reminisce about what it could be. The past is past. Live and enjoy the present. The future will take care of itself. The best is yet to be!
